How often should I visit the dentist?
The American Dental Association — and Dr. Cortesi — recommends professional cleanings and checkups at least twice a year.
What will happen during my visits?
On your first visit, a staff member will work with you to assemble a complete medical and dental history. We'll complete a thorough examination of the teeth and gums, a cancer screening, a TMJ exam and any necessary X-rays. We will assess your complete dental needs and present our diagnosis. Should you require oral surgery, orthodontics (braces) or endodontics (root canals), we will discuss treatment options and fees and mutaully decide on the right treatment plan for you. These can usually be accomplished in this office.
On subsequent visits, we will examine your teeth and gums, clean your teeth and discuss any questions or problems you may have.
What if I need emergency dental treatment?
While we strive to prevent the need for emergency treatment, alleviating pain is priority. If you have an emergency during regular business hours, we can see you the same day. Should you need emergency care after hours, call our office for the phone number of the doctor.
How can I pay for my treatment?
All payment options will be discussed before your treatment. We are happy to process your dental insurance claims. We accept Visa, MasterCard and Discover.
How can I whiten my teeth?
Teeth can be whitened by several methods and Dr. Cortesi can help. Ask us today about which whitening method is best for you.
Many whitening products are availible in stores, but the American Dental Association recommends that bleaching treatments be done only under the supervision of a dentist, following proper examination and diagnosis of the discolored teeth.
What if my teeth are misshapen or chipped?
We may recommend veneers or bonding. A veneer is a porcelain piece that covers the front surface of a stained, yellowed, spotted, or unevenly shaped tooth. Bonding involves replacing tooth structure, recontouring teeth or changing the shapes of the teeth with a composite (plastic) that is bonded to enamel.
